Retaliation Is Topic at June 17 Meeting of EEOC

Add workplace retaliation to the list of topics for public discussion by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission next week.

The commission announced today that on next Wednesday, June 17, it will hold a meeting on “Retaliation in the Workplace: Causes, Remedies, and Strategies for Prevention.”

Panelists will discuss why retaliation occurs in the workplace and what proactive steps employers can take to prevent its occurrence.

EEOC staff also will live tweet from the public meeting using the @EEOCNews Twitter handle and the hashtag #EEOCmtg.

The commission received almost 38,000 charges alleging retaliation last year, about double from 1997.

For more information on the meeting, go here.

As I reported yesterday, next Monday the EEOC will hold a meeting to explore “root causes” of workplace harassment.
