Bill Would Give U.S.Employees More Options for Using Transit Benefits During Metro Safety Surge

A House republican and democrat have teamed up to introduce a bill to allow federal employees to use their transit benefits on other transportation options while Washington, D.C.’s metrorail system undergoes a yearlong repair.

The bill backed by Reps. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) would apply the subsiduary to ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft and bike-sharing programs such as Capital Bikeshare.

Employees can set aside up to $25 per month from their pre-tax wages to pay for their transit benefit.
